By the handful or just the whole basket, I have been OD-ing on blueberries. The delicious benefits of this small purple fruit are like nothing else. Not to be cliché, but I have to use the word “superfood” to describe them.
Here are just a few of their “super” qualities:
- Rank #1 in antioxidants…you know those powerful elements that attack the effect of free radicals that degrade skin cells aka wrinkles. This is in large part because they contain Anthocyanin, which is responsible for the pigment.
- Clean blood vessels, arteries, and veins via the high presence of antioxidants.
- High in fiber, making them beneficial for a happy colon.
- Like cranberries, they reduce the ability of bacteria to adhere to the bladder and urethra wall, great for preventing urinary tract infections.
For those reasons alone they should find their way into your fridge. But let’s face it, the number one reason I eat them is because they taste wonderful and I love to cook with them!
