Boy oh boy has 2020 tested our mental health, darlings. It’s a good thing September is Self-Care Awareness Month ‘cuz we’re going to need a whole month of self-care to restore some clarity and focus into our lives. In recognition of this special month I will be sharing some my favorite self care tips all month long.
To kick it off, I wanted to talk a little about the mental benefits of working out. We all know that working out is good for our physical health but the mental health benefits often go overlooked. Did you know that physical exercise can actually help treat anxiety and depression? Exercising naturally releases endorphins in your brain that relax your muscles and reduces pain in your body. That feeling can actually improve your overall mood and energy levels. After my hysterectomy I realized that working out was also super helpful for my brain fog. That’s because physical exercise increases noraepinephrine, dopamine and seratonin levels in your body which help improve focus, memory, and overall mood. It goes without saying that working out also improves confidence. All of this without medication!

The beautiful thing about working out is it’s FREE! If anything, quarantine has shown me that I don’t need a gym to workout. Instagram has tons of free workout videos you can use to get in your workout in from home. My pilates instructor Andrea shares lots of great tips on her page. Go follow her!
