I am freaking out with all the great pieces I found on my recent vintage shopping spree. It’s not often that I add so many PERFECT 2nd hand items to my wardrobe in a mere 2 days. But before I get going on the treasures I found, there are a couple things I want to say. First, I realize hunting through used clothes may seem a pain in the a$$ or just plain not your thing, but I really hope this post can inspire you to give it a shot. Secondly, the word sustainability is not a trend guys. The fashion industry is the 2nd top pollutant in the world…so basically repurposing clothes is a fantastic and impactful way to make an eco-friendly contribution. Oh, and when I tell you that I spent under $100 for everything then maybe I can appeal to your wallet as an inducement.
Day 1 of Vintage Shopping: Reformation Vintage Fair
What better way to spend a few hours than shopping for awesome thrifted pieces from over a dozen vendors in one location? I didn’t even let a cold rainy LA day keep me away. You see, before Reformation started manufacturing the most coveted pieces of my dreams they sold 2nd hand vintage clothes. The Ref fair is like their way of going back to their roots. Another side note… their original shop on Melrose is now exclusively vintage. To shop the new collections you have to visit their new location at Platform in Culver City. It’s over at the Culver City location where they hosted their latest vintage fair. It’s super cool!!
Reformation invites vendors who curate and sell vintage wear to set up a booth, kind of like a flea market, outside in the Platform plaza — I live for it! My girl Jazmin of @hotcocoavintage was there. You guys see me in her stuff a lot…like that denim pencil skirt that I’m pretty sure is still high on my IG feed. At this fair there are maybe 15 or more vendors that are passionate about what they do just like Jazmin, so I knew I was gonna leave with something!!! I have to be honest maybe it was the weather, but once I got there I was not really in the mood to try on clothes. As I talked about in the Rose Bowl Flea Market post, when vintage shopping I usually try clothes on under the clothes I’m wearing…remember this venue is outside basically on the street and a cold rainy day was not encouraging me at all. I made a full circle of the fair and finally found one lovely vendor @camrosedrive that had several things I wanted to try!
Black Cropped Tie Sweater
Love at first sight kinda attraction!! I knew I found a gem, I knew it would fit, and I KNEW I had to have it no matter what it cost! It’s the perfect ME piece is it not? And guess what…$29 BUCKS!! SCORE!! I think it’s meant to be wore tied in the front but I style it wrapped around my chest and tied in the back. Feminine. Sexy. Flattering. Chic. When I try on clothes no matter if it’s new or used my mind flips through possible looks. This sweater gives my wardrobe a major boost with endless possibilities for me to style it with. Here styled with a pair of wool high waisted trousers and cute white sneaks. Effortless kind of look.
Charcoal Chambray Sailor Front Trousers
Made by a French brand back in the 80’s, I could not believe my eyes when I saw these pants!! SO GOOD!! I have been wanting sailor front trousers sooo bad. I’ve looked at every brand you can think of, but each pair I had found were missing something. Once I tried these on I was like NO WAY…how can this be?! Hips, butt, waist, length…all perfect!! The lovely owner of @camrosedrive gave me both pieces for $60 bucks, fashion karma is a real thing babes!! Worn here with a minimal crop top and sleek patent leather sandals it’s the perfect spring outfit for pretty much any occasion.
Day 2 of Vintage Shopping: Super Thrift
If you follow along with my on my IG stories then you know I do everything in life with my daughters. May aka @star.powerr, my oldest, has her own online vintage boutique (May’s Depop Shop) that she is constantly second hand shopping to fill. She has taken me back to MY roots of thrift store shopping by hitting the non-curated racks of our neighborhood thrift shops. She loves Super Thrift which is ran by a non-profit organization Rescue Mission of San Fernando Valley. To shop these spots you need patience for the hunt and the eye to know when you’ve got something special.
Oversized Gray Wool Blazer
Let me start with the price…a whopping $10.99…I mean I spend that on a fresh squeezed juice! Oddly enough I did not own a gray wool blazer so in my mind this fills a void in my wardrobe. The shape and scale of this jacket in particular is why I bought it. The length hits my thigh just at the right point, the shoulders are an exact fit, the color is rich and dark, the sleeves are the perfect length as well AND it’s oversized without being too big. I styled this blazer here with leggings, cropped white-T, chunky Dr. Martens and layered a camel sweater under the blazer. I really wanted to demonstrate that you can take a polished structured piece like this blazer, pair it with a super casual outfit and make effortless style magic!! For tips on shopping vintage blazers check out the blog we did a few months ago.
Knit Chanel-esque Bomber Style Cardigan
I have worn this sweater almost everyday since it has come home with me. That is a true sign of an awesome purchase. The fact that it cost $4.99 and is vintage 80’s makes it a freakin’ AMAZING score!! I love every detail of it and knew the instant I found it that I scored big time. The black knit is soft knubby almost tweedy and the gold buttons ooze a Chanel-vintage vibe. The bomber cut fits a little over-sized and baggie which I LOVE. It can be worn dressed up or down. You see here all I did was swap one jacket for another. Still wearing my casual legging outfit to show you how one basic outfit can be influenced by outerwear. One outfit you run errands in and the other you wear for a casual dinner date or night at the movies.

Now that was a successful weekend of vintage shopping if I do say so myself! Hope you’ll be inspired to get out there darlings and hunt for your own vintage treasures. I can’t wait ’til my next vintage haul. After all, I saved a ton of money so that means more shopping right? Just doing my part to support sustainable fashion. ????
